Video: Overview of Doctoral Seminar in Social Science Theory and the Globalized World
This doctoral seminar is one of the 6 core courses in the Doctor of Social Sciences program at Royal Roads University. It reviews the development of theories of inquiry-based change in human systems and knowledge use for community, and environmental sustainability. Discussions focus on developments in social theory that have responded to the diversity and complexity of the globalized world and their application. The seminar encourages critical discussions on whether and how contemporary social theories (and their interdisciplinary content) can understand a world in which ecological, economic and social welfare are profoundly intertwined. The seminar provides a broad overview of the history, theory and practice of social science as a way to support doctoral students in developing and planning their research, with emphasis on the theoretical paradigms for the dissertation research.
